Sunset In My City
Onset of my pity
For the sun has shone
Only to dry out hope; gone!
The hard work bestowed
Has yielded nothing
But one thing;
Poverty _sting!
Written all over our faces
Are perfect traces
Of the hard imprint
The strain we'd put in
Yielded nothing but pain
Again _sobbed ourselves silent
And dried the tears we'd to cry
Yet again to try
We woke up every day
Willing to keep on and stay
Hoping against hope
That our next stop
Would yield deeper scope
I can see Koluo son of Aruo
Among the boys at the stop
Now tell me,
If the educated
Came back to compete
In hawking,
Who will do the talking
On sending children to school?
Who will stand to pull
Money for educating a fool?
Hey! Can you cool!
Who did you call a fool?!
Tell us in hierarchy!
If those on those stools
Are leading us into a pool
Of ignorance and poverty
And setting laws that prick our eyes
Maintaining a system that ties
Us down to the floor,
Who will grow?
Tell me,
Where will it flow;
Water that leaks from the roof?
Or do you need more proof?
Then in your head you're slow
Go ahead and tow
Poor governance to your door!
Sunset in my City
The onset of my pity
Children in the streets
Hawking stolen stock
Growing up to live as hawks
Until the merciless arm of the glock
Descends on...
"Arrest those boys!"
Educate a girl child
Educate the nation
Did I hear that chant?!
Oh mind pollution!
Show me where they'll go
I mean the ones you call dog
If the system played bog_ass!
When they lie idle and drunk
Would you love to make a prank?
Or when they chased your mother's mother
And played your father's father's role!
I see the sun set on my city
Its rays illuminating its weak walls
Cobwebs and soot surround it all
Who will save its downfall?
It is not our fault, the yolk
Of the moon you broke
Upon our heads works!
Aren't you seeing the sun set
On the once magnificent city?
Well, then send us to the mad-house
Where you won't see us with pity!
